Our Japanese cook "Bob", was really good even though it was his "first time" cooking. He was very entertaining. I recommend.

If you are a sushi novice this place might be okay but it is really not good quality sushi. There are many other great sushi restaurants out there Fujiyama in Bluffton blows Hinoki away!

The sushi is good sushi. Not out of this world but not bad. I was pleased. The wizard roll was the favorite out of the 6 my father and I tried. Good miso soup and a great atmosphere. They open at 5:30 and there was a line out the door at 5:25. Good thing we made reservations. We chose to sit at a sunken table which is always fun. We had a eastern european waitress which was interesting for a Japanese place. Pleased overall and would definitely go back. Food was fast and well presented.

Fantastic! We have several excellent sushi options back home in the DC area, and Hinoki is right there with them. Service was good, decent wine list. Will definitely return.

Hinoki is an amazing Japanese and Sushi restaurant. I grew up on Hilton Head and currently live in Atlanta. Hinoki and its sister restaurant Kurama have some of the best sushi you will find (Much better than you will generally find in Atlanta). One of my favorite rolls there is the spicy tuna roll with marinated jalepenos and the Tuna Sashimi melts in your mouth. This is the a great restaurant off the beaten path. If you are visiting Hilton Head you will find Hinoki to be a hidden gem that mainly only Islander's know about. You will not be disappointed!

Not so great the second time around. Sloppy service. Mediocre sushi. Way too much mayo.

By far the best Japanese on the Island and easily a top ten across the board. From the sushi to the agedashi, this place is high quality and authentic. I've eaten here more times than I can count and I have never been disappointed. The only down side is the slow service and the long wait between ordering and actually getting your food....small price to pay.

I'm not enough of a sushi aficionado to be trusted for my opinion on the quality of the fish at Hinoki. That said, I had a great meal here. An intimate, dimly lit setting with just a few tables and a small L-shaped bar. All the food was delicious. Definitely can recommend the baked green mussel appetizer. All nigiri and rolls we tried were excellent. Highly recommended.

I'll make this short and sweet. Sushi here is amazing and fresh but the slow service is unforgivable. We came on a Thursday, around 7pm. There must have been 4 other small parties in the place, very empty. There were 4 of us and a child. We ordered a kid meal and 7 rolls. The kids meal came out right away but we waited almost an hour for our sushi. Not once did our server appear to give us apologies or hope that the food would be out shortly. Delicious if you're willing to wait, but not the type of experience I like on vacation.

This is the best Sushi. I recommend the tuna carpaccio, the yellowtail carpaccio and the Dinosaur Egg. The salads are also amazing. I could eat there every day.

My husband and I love sushi so we were looking forward to Hinoki based on all of the fantastic yelp reviews! The decor, service, and seaweed salad that we started with were all great. Unfortunately that is the only dish we enjoyed. The Wizard Roll (shrimp tempura, avocado, and eel sauce) had mayo inside the roll for some reason, which made the tempura soggy and completely lacking in crunch or texture- skip this one! The deluxe sushi platter was also disappointing. The fish tasted OK, but the rice was flavorless and there was SO much wasabi that it overwhelmed everything. 2 stars for the service and the seaweed salad, but -3 stars for having to go back to the hotel and order (delicious) room service after spending $46 on bad sushi.

Respectable sushi restaurant on Hilton Head island. Seems like a lot of the locals come here. The sushi chefs were quite entertaining and carried on great conversations for all those sitting at the sushi bar. We enjoyed the seaweed salad and the assortment of rolls we had, which included the Wizard Roll, the Hilton Head Roll, the Hiro Roll, and the Yellowtail Hamachi. Our server was extremely pleasant and helpful.

Excellent sushi. We are a fan of tuna, and this place had a lot of it different ways. Highly suggested.

We came to Hinoki for dinner since Kurama was jammed packed. We were hoping to experience something similar to Kurama. Unfortunately we did not. Hinoki does not do Hibachi style seating, but they do offer Hibachi style entrées. We ordered Hibachi and received Miso soup which was bland as well as the entrées, and Salad with Ginger Dressing which tasted more like French Dressing with cracked pepper. The price we paid was high for the quality of the food we received. I will be sticking with Kurama for my Japanese food on Hilton Head.

Rating this 4 stars for value and service. Lots of food and good. The decor is clean and modern Japanese. We had two habachi dinners with soup, salad tempura shrimp and vegetables chicken and shrimp another had chicken and steak. The chicken had a light cripy coating. People around us seemed to enjoy the Sushi. If you are in the mood go and enjoy!

Hinoki is one of my FAVORITE things about visiting Hilton Head. The sushi is delicious and the service is first-class. I have had the opportunity to visit many top tier sushi locations in CA, HI and Japan and taste and preparation of the sushi and sashimi served at Hiinoki rivals some of the very best! Parking is easy and reservations are encouraged for weekend summer nights. Decor is what you would expect at a sushi bar--Japanese inspired/bamboo. Very excited for our next trip to Hilton Head and our next visit to Hinoki!

I love it here. We sit at the sushi bar and the service is excellent. The chefs are true Japanese sushi chefs. Be sure to go outside your comfort zone and try one of their specials. The tuna 3 ways is a must if you've never been here. Hinoki is an exceptional value. We can't wait to go back!

My daughter and I sat at the sushi bar which was so welcoming buy the chefs. The sushi was wonderful and the portions were an excellent size for the money. I have eaten sushi in many places from NYC to Italy and this restaurant holds it's own with the best sushi places.! We were in Hilton head for 5 days and dined there twice. July 23-28, 2015

Great hibachi, great sushi. My 3 year old had so much fun and the service is amazing!
(4)Robert H.
Best sushi experience we have enjoyed in years. Fresh sushi and so much more. We had a Yellowtail Jaw special. Wow. Highly recommend.
(5)Lori M.
Came here upon the recommendation of a friend. We made reservations and were sat quickly in the pit. Too cute! Decorations were authentic with all the bamboo. We ordered the Wizard, Shrimp Tempura, Veggie, and Mikkey rolls. Yum! Quite possibly the best sushi ever and a great way to kick off our weekend in HHI

Delicious food, acceptable service. The tempura was exceptionally good. Not a sushi person, but I loved their combination dinner. Everything we ate was wonderful.

We are Japanese but do not recommend this restaurant for sushi. Sushi rice taste was awful and terrible because sushi rice tasted hard and one-day old. We spent more than $100 for dinner for two but do not go to this restaurant again. It was bad experience with Japanese sushi at Hilton head Island.

This is my wife and I second time here and this Japanese restaurant didn't disappoint. Portions are little small but I think I was being aliitle too greedy.

Hinoki is the best sushi in Hilton head! I have been here many times, finally decided to write a review. Sit at sushi bar the chefs are excellent, speedy, friendly, humorous. The last couple of visits I have lucked out and they had fresh grated wasabi, ask for it. Had very fresh Uni this time, the best! you owe it to yourself to check out Hinoki if you're a sushi lover. I'll be back soon.

Fantastic experience! The sushi was fantastic, atmosphere is great and prices are very reasonable. Lobster roll is the bomb!
(5)David J.
excellent food, excellent service, not a great table on a side area in the restaurant, I would confirm next time that my table was in the main restaurant, reasonable prices
(4)Alisa T.
Excellent sushi on HHI. The sashimi was fresh. Yellow tail and albacore melted like butter in your mouth. The ramen w pork had a flavorful broth w a hint of ginger. Loved the glass view of the bamboo garden.
(4)Billy G.
Excellent sushi! Great apps. Great service! We went 2x in 3 days.
(5)Rebecca F.
We were very happy with our visit to Hinoki. Prices are reasonable and quality is good to very good. We ordered 4 rolls and miso soup and felt we had plenty to eat. My one criticism would be that they put way too much avacado in their rolls. I have mixed feelings about the decor. At first I thought to myself, "This is the nicest sushi place I've been in!" -- a samauri armor set, a bamboo wall, special sunken seating... But then I took a good look out the window at their "Japanese garden". C'mon! Take the plants out of the nursery pots and plant them for goodness sake! Or at least take the price tags off. Sheesh!

Excellent sushi. Surf & Turf and Fiesta rolls were delicious.
(5)Julia Z.
The decor is really nice, but the food and the service are lacking. The spicy tuna roll was probably the worst one we've ever had - we couldn't even eat it! The other items we ordered were OK (not great)- so if you do decide to go, stay away from the rolls.
(2)Nancy K.
Enjoyed eating at the sushi bar the fiesta roll with spicy tuna and the surf and turf rolls were excellent. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of fish and the service was much improved.
(5)Mel B.
Was recommended by another business owner. We thoroughly enjoyed. Spicy tuna wasn't very spicy. More wasabi would be good. This was a take-out order. Would order again.

Our family was in Hilton Head Island last week and we went Restaurant Hinoki for dinner. We did a bit of research prior to our visit and found that not many people write reviews on Sushi in Hilton Head but we decided that we would try Hinoki. Our server was very nice and attentive throughout our meal. The decor and ambience were both pleasant and our meal was very tasty. We ordered the Combination Chicken Tempura Dinner, the Spicy Tuna Roll, the Hiroe Roll, the Rainbow Roll, the California Roll and the Wizard Roll. The Tempura on the Chicken and Vegetables was light, not overly battered and there was plenty of chicken. Not like other places where it's mostly tempura and not much chicken. The Wizard Roll was our favorite roll and we actually ordered a second of this and the spicy Tuna Roll came in a close second. This is a restaurant that our family unanimously agreed was a good dining experience and that we would definitely recommend and return to. Bon Appetit.

Best sushi. Great atmosphere.

EH - Not impressed. I'm sure it is the best Japanese on the island but it is just OK, nothing special. The sushi rice was somewhat flavorless as were the entrees. The Agedashi Tofu was strangely prepared and the dashi wasn't dashi at all but some type of sauce. The fish while not "bad" wasn't the freshest or top quality either. We were waited on by a hispanic waitress who couldn't pronounce the words and the plants in the little garden were in the plastic pots from the nursery. Both very un-Japanese. The rest of the decor was very nice.
